I thought this would be a good place to let you know any problems or questions, so they don't get lost in the avalanche of emails--and I can put in pictures easily, so that you know exactly which picture I am referring to. I have copied both the email and the title and time of the email, so you can go back and check if there is any confusion.
No message, just two unlabeled photos. One of someone kayaking by the Rock at Perce. We already have a picture of the Rock in the Summer Cruise page, so I put this in the photo section. I am a bit concerned about this photo, however, since I don't know where it came from or if it is under copyright protection. If you took the photo, we're fine. The other is of an unidentified coastline, so I can't use it, since I don't know where it is specifically. Also, it is an aerial shot, so I rather doubt you took it yourself. Of course, you may have. I just need to find out if it is under copyright protection.
Billie,
Great job so far. Hang in there, we are
almost done.
Re: July Festival - looks good. Please add
the picture (attached) entitled Summer Fun at
the beginning of the page with the description. Also, add the
picture port st louis in the itinerary box next
to Day 4.
More updates to come.
Billie, I'm sorry you felt all alone in
the effort to complete the site. However, we have always been
with you except maybe we have been slow in responding because we
have so many other things that we are working on. We definitely
want you to know we are all working together on this...roger
There seems to be a problem with Summer Fun. I wanted to see if I was just being odd, so I showed it to two other people and just asked them to tell me what they thought the picture was about. The quotes are pretty close to exact. My son said, "It looks like people having a good time except for that one lady. Are they trying to cheer her up?" My neighbor said, "It looks like a picnic, but the lady in white is not happy." So, rather than telling the viewer that everyone is happy, the picture becomes the story of one unhappy person. Even though it is a very nice snapshot, I would not use this photo at all on the site. It does not say what you want to say.
I already have the photo of Port St. Louis in the photo section, so I put a copy in the itinerary box. I'll move the one in the photo section in the future, so we only use each photo once.
Hey Billie,
Please add two pictures (I hope I can send
3 pix with this email) titled "the picture" and "louis XIV" in
the description part. We will provide updates to the
descriptions shortly.
Also, replace the picture in the itinerary
box with the one titled "abraham plains".
Re: your comment about not wanting to stay
in Quebec city during July Festival tour please note that except
for a day outing in Montreal everything else does occur in QC.
The ile d'Orleans is just down the street from the city, about
10 minutes out. It is beautiful.
thanks...roger
You gave the picture titled "the picture" on CD. The reasons I cannot use it are that it is very overexposed (especially the pale flowers whose details are almost completely blown out) and there is no indication of where it is or what it has to do with the tours.
I have the photo that you are now calling "louis XIV." It is on the CD as "place notre dame." Could you please let me know exactly what is in the picture? Is it the bust of Louis XIV in the Place Royale? I need to be able to label the picture.
I put the picture of the Plains of Abraham in the itinerary.
Hello again Ms. Billie,
Re: August Delights - need to change the
dates of this tour to August 2 - 7. Also, change the number of
days and nights to 6 days and 5 nights. Please add two pictures
to the description part. First picture titled "photo fun"
and second titled "street scene b".
thanks...roger
I made the changes. But, as for the pictures, this is what I got:
Of course, there might be no room in the description part for two photos anyway. In any case, I need better titles for the photos. "Photo Fun" (whatever it is) does not tell me what the photo is, where it is or who is in it. "Street Scene b" does not tell me what street it is, in what city, etc. And, as I mentioned before, the titles you have for the photos do not come along with the photos when you send them. Just a reminder. (Sometimes I can figure them out. Sometimes I have to spend considerable time on the internet looking things up to figure it out. Very, very time-consuming.) However, I have a photo of "Shopping in Quebec" which is obviously the same street as in the photo above. So, I put that on the page. The name of the street might have been nice. It's probably very famous.
Shopping in Quebec
Hi Billie,
Found something that affects several
pages. In closing ceremonies, similar to August delights, change
number of days to 6 days/5 nights and dates to Oct 16 - 21. This
has to be changed at the beginning of the page and also in the
2008 tours table at the end of the page. This correction (days
and dates) to closing ceremonies and august delights has to be
made in the corresponding 2008 tours tables in the 2008 page,
the Travel packages page, and each of the individual 2008 tours
pages.
For this page add the two pictures "by
tourny fountain" and "old quebec architecture".
I love the panoramic picture at the bottom
of the itinerary table!...roger
Corrections to the table and pages have been made. There might not be room for two pictures. We have a picture of Tourny Fountain in the photos section. Of course, it is cleaned up and I removed the people in front of the fountain:
The picture you sent is not a very good picture of the fountain itself, since so much of it is cut off, including the top. (By the way, you gave me that picture on the CD.) If you want it on the photo page as well, let me know. I like the pretty woman standing in front of the fountain!
So, I used "Old Quebec Architecture."
The panoramic picture that was at the bottom of the itinerary actually is for Autumn Splendors. It just came over when I copied that itinerary over to the Closing Ceremonies page. But, I'm glad you like it anyway! I am thinking of adding a photo series at the bottom of the itinerary, but that can be done later. I also added the closing ceremonies to the itinerary, since that was rather important.
Hi Billie,
Getting closer to completion. I am
attaching a word file that provides the descriptions for all the
2008 tours except the summer cruise. I will review that next.
Additionally, in the photos
page please replace the carriage picture with the picture
"montreal3".
In the description of June Delights change
Island of Orleans to Ile d'Orleans. Also, change the whale
picture in the itineraries table to the attached "blue whale".
Re: the host / domain name issue, I was
asking if we could change the host first and later change the
registrar because I keep getting put on HOLD with register.com
and have not been able to get through to them to get the
authorization you need. Just asking for our convenience.
thanks...roger
I looked at the word file, and it is simply the descriptions that I already rewrote for the regular tours. I will write new descriptions for the "Special" tours, so that they actually seem special and not just clones of what the company already offers. I had already started rewriting them anyway. I'll let you know when they are up, so you can go over them and change what you want to--or need to! Right now, there are just some minor changes on a couple of pages. In the photos section, we can have as many photos as we want. You don't have to take one out to put another one in. As for the Montreal photos, where is that in Montreal? I've tried to find it online, but I can't seem to locate a yacht basin in the city. Maybe they call it something else. I changed the whale picture. NOW, where did you get those two pictures? I need to make certain that we are not infringing on someone's copyright. We can't change the host until we change the registrar. They make it inconvenient, so you won't want to change. They're not going to give you good customer service if you don't want to be their customer anymore. However, if you don't do this soon, you will wind up having to pay for two hosting services. Laws and company policies are set up to try to prevent people from hijacking domain names. It is for your protection that you are the one who has to move the registration. I can set up your account on the other end, but I cannot get your authorization code.
Sorry. Here it is. I hope yahoo isn't dropping attached files! FBDsmile@aol.com wrote:
Changed the picture, but the actual building is such a tiny percentage of the overall picture that it doesn't read very well. I suggest we find another picture to go here. (Also, is this a picture you took or did you get it from somewhere? If you got it somewhere, where?)
Billie,
I am sending several emails on this page
because yahoo can't handle too many large files e.g. pictures.
In the description the spelling of
Gaspesie should be as just spelled.
In the Day 2 itinerary box left column
replace existing picture with the two attached - Montreal2 and
Frontenac from ship.
In the day 3 pix box add picture tadoussac
bay. On the third star separate parkas into park
as...roger
I corrected the misspelling of Gaspésie, including the accent. Corrected "parkas." Good catch! I can't put in any more pictures unless I know where they came from. It's too much work to have to do all over again if we can't legally use the pictures. I'm sure you understand.
Hey Billie,
In days 4... pix box remove current pic
and replace with chandler and iles pix attached. If possible add
iles6 as a third...roger
Again, I have to know where these pictures came from.
Hi,
On day 7 pix box replace with kayak_perce
and blue whale. In day 8 pix box use best tadoussac and chutes
montmorency pix. Latter is in next email...roger
Same concern.
Billie,
In day 8 pix box use chutes montmorency.
In day 9 box use montreal3. If possible you might use iles6 pix
(if it didn't fit in day4...box) in the day 10 box!
That's it! We are done. Of course you know
Elizabeth and I will review the whole site one last time when
you tell us you are done updating.
best regards for now...roger
The picture issue is still an issue. Please let me know as soon as you can. I simply can't put up pictures when I don't know their origin. In fact, I'm concerned about some of the photos that were already on the site, and I will be going over them one by one to eliminate any that I find are copyright protected. In the meantime, this has been a long, grueling day without very much to show for it except this page. Roger, I know you have tried to get all the items necessary to finish the site, and I really appreciate all your efforts. I know you realize that having pictures is important but that it is not as important as finishing the site and getting good information out. As a practical matter, with the design complete, we really only needed four pictures to fill in the blanks, a good eye-over for errors, and new descriptions for the 2008 tours in order to completely finish the site. Changing out photos can be done at any time. The corrections were essential, and I am so happy to have someone go over the information to ensure its accuracy. So, for now, I will write the necessary descriptions and we can figure out four photos (two for the July 2008 tours and two for the Summer Cruise) that we would like to fill in the spots. (Unless, of course, we find that photos already on the site are copyright-protected.) All the other photos need to just be put on hold for now. If you find any more errors, of course, please let me know immediately. I know it seems to be like grinding diamonds sometimes, but this is such a fine project. I know it will all come together the way it should. Love to you both, Billie
