A Heartfelt Thanks!
Since late April when we realized that oil was gushing
into our Gulf of Mexico, everyone I’ve talked to all over the US has said, “I
wish I could do something. I feel so helpless.” I felt the same way. I don’t
know how to clean up oil or wash pelicans, but I do know how to make music. And
the process of putting all this together has really made me feel empowered.
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the
following for their help in making Jazz for the Gulf possible:
-
The artists - Karrin Allyson, Ellis
Marsalis, Leah Chase, Charmaine Neville, Holley
Bendtsen, Brian Seeger, Amasa Miller, James Westfall,
Dan Loomis, and Jared Schonig for their donation of time and
expenses to the cause;
-
Karrin Alyson and
Dean Hampton for getting this ball rolling and Jack Hopke for his
services as Master of Ceremonies;
-
ABC26 TV, WWOZ
Radio, WWNO Radio, Keith Spera at the Times Picayune,
Sheri McKee at Where Yat, Michael Samardzija, and
Carol Carriere for their help in getting the word out;
-
Chef Dustin Palmisano
of The Old Coffee Pot Restaurant (714 Saint Peters Street in New
Orleans) for providing food for the musicians!!
-
Billie Duncan, the
angel who came out of nowhere to create this beautiful website; and
-
YOU! Attending this
event is something easy and fun that YOU can do to make a difference
in this man-made disaster. And if you can’t be there in person, you can be
there in spirit by clicking the “Donate Now” button.
With love and gratitude,
